It doesn't smell, but it is a bit on the hard side to use for yoga. I have a mat designed for yoga that is a little thicker and more cushy. You could use this mat under a yoga mat.

Used the mat underneath a treadmill, no problems with any kind of odor. Don't know if the mat is soft enough to be used as yoga mat.
