“Does this cable work with 2011-2012 MacBook Pro and will it display on external monitor ?”

• If you are looking at the Insignia Brand (BestBuy product) HDMI to Lightning cable, don’t do it. Does not work with my old MacBook Pro with LG HDTVs. I went to Staples and bought their brand (for less money) and it worked.
