• My charger get warm only when charging. I have two and have not had a problem with either getting warm when not used.

• It should not be case. Maybe there's something wrong with the battery itself. A return would be recommended. It's not the case for me

• Yes it is charging you phone. Fully charge your phone then hook it up. Then check. It should not get hot

• As long as it doesn't get burning hot, should be fine. Anything with a strong power source will build up heat. Suggestion, charge on countertop not on couch or resting on pillow, etc.
