No. It is optical. You can use it on anything except clear glass.

I have used the mouse on a wooden desk and it worked fine. If you don't have a mouse pad, you can always use a few sheets of paper to provide a smooth uniform service.

It will be fine on a wooden surface, it is laser so it will be perfectly fine even with cracks

it shouldn't. the mouse has a optical light, it should work on any surface. I've not had any problems. I've used it on different kinds of surfaces
