Hello Lori, In my research the insignia does not have the capability of making calls.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I bought mine in Nov 17. I also bought Google speakers. The Google speakers DO get updates. There have been several updates of features including the ability to make phone calls. For some reason the updates only apply to Google speakers. I don't believe Best Buy will ever update these as at some point they will be discontinued. This is a nice speaker but missing out on Google updates is a big reason to avoid. If you don't need updated features, however, this is a good speaker.
