It extends to almost 45". The 1' is the retracted length that fits easily in your pocket. And the good heavy duty selfie sticks do not have remote buttons as they are really out needed. You can use your watch as a remote or the timer on your cameras or iPhones. I only use iPhones so I have no idea how it works with other phone cameras.
