As long as the source is not excessively loud you should be able to turn the speaker up most of the way. To be safe, I would say make sure the bluetooth or aux source is on low volume, then, turn the Sport XL up to 70%-80%, then turn the source (bt device or aux) up until you hear any distortion- you do not want that distortion, so dial the volume back to just before you hear that distortion, and then use the Sport XL to change the volume and you should maintain quality audio and lessen the risk of blwoing the speaker.
