• No not necessary the app is only to make a music profile like equalizer things. All you need is Bluetooth

• I have an android phone and you do not NEED the JayBird app, but it does help. The sound profile will be tied to the app so you won't have to adjust equalizer settings within other apps and it gives you a battery level. I did not download any DAC app (that I know of at least).
