“We paired the Bluetooth with our phone and we played music through it. However when we tried to watch a dvd we could not get the sound bar on again. We did turn off the Bluetooth on our phone but for some reason it now doesn’t recognize the DVD player?”

You can’t connect to a DVD player. You would have to connect it to your TV via Bluetooth, HDMI, or Optical line.
