Does this system provide surround sound? null

No. True surround sound would require additional rear speakers. But this system sounds great, and if you place the subwoofer to the rear of the room, the sound is very spatial and enveloping.

No, it does dolby digital stereo. I use YouTube TV and when I switch it to 5.1 the sound is missing some parts and the overall volume goes down. I have it connected to a Roku TV. When doing that make the sound stream pass through for this system. Sounds way better.
