Using an aux cord will automatically switch the usage of Bluetooth power to receiving the signal via aux instead. This should help save battery life. The main differences between the Clip 2 and Clip 3 are the longer battery life of the Clip 3 and that the Clip 3 does not have a built in aux cord. You would need to connect a separate aux cord to the Clip 3 if you wish to hook it up with a wired connection.
