The speaker (or should I say battery) is near the end of it's life expectancy. Pretty sad if it has only lasted less than a year.

I bought two at the same time and 9 months later they both failed, (within 5 days of each other). Before they completely died I got the same static you mentioned in your comment....I didn't buy insurance...
