You have to hold down the small round button and wait for the "hello", "you are connected, battery full"greeting. This allows you to begin using headphones. Hold button again, until you hear "Good-bye",and the unit turns off. If the unit needs to be plugged in to operate, this defeats the purpose of wireless Bluetooth headphones, and should be returned to the store to exchange or get a refund.
