Yes! I have a 1 and 3 year old who have dropped this thing multiple times and so far it's been protected! I think the purpose is more more about style, but it has definitely protected mine more than enough!

Does have a raised edge around the screen to protect the screen if dropped face down. I don't know how it will do with really high drops, but from hand to ground drops it has been effective.
