Yes it's very protective. I have an S10 and it comes above the edge to protect from drops.

Yes it does protect against being dropped . I've dropped my phone probably 10 times on concrete & it's been completley fine anywhere from a 3 foot drop to a 4 & a half foot drop .

I bought this case for my 11 year old, and it's been dropped a few times. Doesn't seem extremely durable, but t's survived so far.
