“Does this model have a gap between the back of the shelves and the rear wall of the fridge? If so, how big is it? I want to avoid the very large (2.5") gap in some KA models.”

Yes. The shelves have about a 2” space, plenty of room for items to fall off the back. I hate this, but I didn’t think about it when I purchased the unit. Otherwise, I like the fridge just fine (I’ve been using mine for about 8 weeks now).
