• Hello Bill, Yes this unit will require a hood vent. A microwave hood should work. We would recommend reviewing the installation instructions to see what would be needed. We hope this helps.

• A microwave w/ exhaust should suffice if it's vented outdoors. I have the matching Kitchenaid Microwave. It has a 400 CFM 6 speed fan which I vented outside. If you're using the recirculation type venting I would strongly recommend changing the charcoal filter pads on a regular basis (Microwave Brand Instructions).
