“after stopping the mixer to scrape sides of bowl the attachment is always too close to one area of the blow, spatula can't fit behind it. what am I doing wrong?”

The bowl height can be adjusted by turning a screw that is directly behind the mixing head. Lower your bowl and turn it clockwise to lower it. There are full instructions on the Kitchenaid site. They say to be sure you unplug before doing this. There is a handy video that describes the proper height. It is very easy to do.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I take the spatula and scrape straight down the sides. It seems to go behind the attachment fine that way. You can start and stop the mixer again and it usually stops in a different place if you need to scrape more thoroughly.
