“Can you choose to NOT print a picture when it is taken and choose to just save it? My son specifically said he doesn’t want the old school polaroid but I think he might occasionally want instant gratification.”

You can do it. Remove the Zink papers in the camera and you can just save pics to the memory card and not printing. If you want other way around, remove memory card to print but not save.
