“Does this microwave venting system have to go outside or is it self circulating and can vent back into the room?”

• The over the range microwave is set for roof venting by default but can also be set to vent through the rear wall or to recirculate back into the room. ^Daphane

• It is capable of both. I have ours venting out.

• Microwaves with vented tops are meant to be hooked up to an outside vent system so that when it’s sucking in the cooking steam/smoke/grease those particles are vented outside not recirculated onto your kitchen surfaces. To be clear, the outside vent is not for the microwave, but rather as a vent system over your stove.
