I have a Samsung basic plasma TV purchased 3 years ago. I purchased this LG sound bar Cyber Monday 2015 and hooked it up today. It IS compatible with my Samsung TV and I can control everything with my cable remote. I was worried that it would not be and that I would have to use multiple remotes, but I can still control the volume and mute button with my cable remote. Just be sure to change the speakers in your TV settings to "external speakers" for the cable remote to work properly with the soundbar. I still use the LG remote to adjust base levels on the subwoofer and change the sound from "cinema, voice, and standard". I also use the "function" button on the LG remote to change it to bluetooth when I want to connect my phone for music. So far this soundbar has exceeded my expectations. It has AMAZING sound and AMAZING bass!! So far it has worked with all my connections including the TV, VCR, and Bluray. This soundbar is as close to a home theater system that I found in regard to speaker wattage, and within my budget. I wanted something I could really turn up and play music loud if I wanted to but without all the speakers and wires. So far I have been pleased. We will see as time goes on, but it is definitely better than just the TV speakers I've been using for 3 years.
