Per the Owner Manual, which is available online, you do not need to have an external vent.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. As an Over-the-Range oven, this unit is designed to be installed between your upper kitchen cabinets above your Countertop or the cooking surface of a gas or electric range oven. It can be vented in one of three ways, Roof-Venting, Wall Venting or Room Venting. The unit is shipped with the blower assembled for Roof-Venting and you would need to change the blower for Wall-Venting or Room-Venting. The minimum distance that this unit can be installed above a range oven or Countertop is 30" before installation from the upper kitchen cabinet. The Extenda vent slides out horizontally to cover the entire cooktop back to front so it can provide ventilation to help reduce smoke and lingering cooking smells. The filter under the unit may angle down about an inch or two at most in the rear under the unit when activated. It cannot be removed.
