“As I have read, and now heard for myself, the sound on this TV is the ONLY thing that is lacking. Looks like I cannot attach external speakers? Are there ANY ways to boost the sound?? Ideas would be greatly appreciated.”

Please try again later.You can attach a sound bar using either the optical audio output on the TV or, if supported by the sound bar (like the Polk Signa S2 I use), you can output the sound from the TV using the TV's HDMI 1 connection (it is an ARC connection, which means it supports both input and output). It sounds great with the Polk sound bar.
