Is the second shelf removeable if you wanted to put in a larger item? I see the top shelf is fixed but don't see anything about the second shelf. null

The middle rack cannot be removed.  It has a water wand attached.  However, we put a very large chili pot in the bottom rack and there was still at least an inch of clearance.

Hi there. Thank you for your question! The second shelf (upper rack) of the LG LDFN4542S dishwasher is removable and features adjustable height and tines. This flexibility allows you to create additional space for larger items in the lower rack, such as oversized pots or trays.
