Yes, it has a handle, otherwise you won't be able to open it. The filter works on a principle of filtering and holding the food particles from a discharged water. You have to clean it manually, very simple.

LG's advanced filtration system is tough on food residue and dirty dishes even if you don't pre-wash. Plus its advanced design makes it extremely efficient and quiet. For best wash performance, clean the filter after each load. If food debris remains in the filter, it may cause an odor. ^CP
