It has a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 and it will always play any content that it is presented with at it's native resolution of 3940 x 2160. When presented with a lower resolution, like SDTV (480i), EDTV (480p) or even regular HD, it will upscale the content to as close as it can to its native resolution (3840 x 2160) The picture may be grainy because Standard Definition video content does not have enough information when it has to be upscaled to that higher resolution. ^AC
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Most of the programs on cable are not 4k so the TV tries to upscale the picture so that it appears better than 1080 but it can't be fully HDR. There is a lot of 4k programming on Amazon and Netflix.
