“I am looking to replace my older LG 40" TV with this larger model. I am currently using a Spectrum cable box with DVR. Will I still need a cable box, or does this TV have one already? Also, can I connect my VCR/DVD player using an AV! port?”

You will need a box for what ever service you choose, unless you use an antenna and receive free TV. You may choose to use the smart TV Apps Like netflix, sling, disney plus, or any other internet apps. You will need an internet provider to use the smart apps. There are different types of ports to connect a DVR or other types of players. Most connect with HDMI connections.
