It is about 5 inches. I used a Sanus LL11 and had no problem. The instructions on the LG box about how to take the television out of the box and lay it on the Styrofoam that is put in the box was tricky. But, it was pretty easy to adjust the VESA screws used in the arms to make the television the desired height. WARNING! Make sure that the top VESA screws are in one of the lengthy slots on the mounting arm and NOT in a hole. The best fit for me was using two screw holes but the distance is off enough to break the tv. Glad I did not force it.
