The answer provided by LG was not correct. You can absolutely use this TV without the network connection as a monitor.

Unfortunately, you need a network connection, but i you want to share, LG TVs are equipped with features that make it easy to wirelessly screen share video, photo and audio content from a mobile device or computer.
