• Well, I didn't have to buy a subscription. I think it comes with some 30-day trial software for watching video. I didn't bother to install it, and the drive works fine without it. If you want to watch video, you may already have software on your computer that does that, or, if you're on a Windows machine, you can download the free, and very useful, VLC video player. I'd bet Macs have that covered without any add-ons.
