You cannot record directly to the LG - 8x External USB Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive - Black, Model # SP80NB80 from a camcorder. The drive has to be connected to a computer then you can record to it the way you would record to a built-in optical drive if your computer had one...^IFV

I use the external drive tp read discs and burn discs via the usb connection to the device. I do not understand how you would use it when connecting to a camcorder. It seems to me that you would connect the camcorder to your computer to copy your video files and then use various programs available for your computer to create a video file that can be burned to a disc. I am not an expert on the subject but I have successfully created a number of video files that I have burned to disc using this external drive. sorry, this may not be any help at all to you.
