Hi Gary, I know how you feel. I'm using a 2014 13" MacBook with Retina Display, It doesn't have a CD drive like my last computer which is why I have to rely on external units. I bought this one which failed after 2 weeks. I've yet to find a suitable replacement I trust. I have High Sierra and it worked fine with my computer before it stopped working at all. The device Software needs to use 64-bit code in order to work with Catalina. First I would try and use your drive on someone else's computer to confirm that it's the Catalina OS rendering your device in operable and not the device itself. If the device runs fine you can look online and see if there's a way to update the software the external drive uses so that it will work properly with the Catalina OS. If all else fails I'd sell it and try to get some of your money back then shop around for a new drive. Only other option I can think of is unfortunately buying a tower desktop computer with its own CD drive. I realize that last option may not work for you at the moment but it is still an option none the less. Hope this helps!
