Works just like a built in drive. You can install programs, burn or read CDs or DVDs.

The main different between the LG - 8x External USB Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive, Model # SP80NB80 and if you had a built-in optical drive in your PC/Laptop is that one is an internal unit and this unit is an external device. After you download and install the supplied software installation CD that comes with the drive, you can simply open the tray & install your Windows 10 software CD into the tray and install windows 10 on your connected PC/Laptop.
