Hi RachelGR. There is nothing in the documentation or specifications for the LG - 8x External USB Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive, Model # SP80NB80 that shows that it has region coding, CSS, or RPC-2 which stores the region code in the drive's firmware. So depending on what media player you have on the computer that you have connected to the drive, you should be able to play DVDs from other regions. VLC is a region free media player, but Windows Media Player is not and might prompt you to set the region...^IFV
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can play disks from other regions if you change the region. To help prevent the distribution of the movies from other locales, if you attempt to play a movie from another region it will change it in the firmware to allow you to play it. You are limited 5 times to change this yourself and the manufacturer has 5 times to change this themselves. Please be aware that on your last change, it's permanent and can't be changed back. Be careful with this feature. RPC II Protection is there for a reason.
