Hi Plasco, while this model (SP80NB80) DVD/CD RW Drive is able to read and write files from DVD and CDs. You may need additional software so that your PC can open specific file types.  ^Chris

it was ncompatable with the laptop i picked out and best buy did not reimburse me for the dvd player a real upstanding tech store not the worst service possable i had a tech person assure me that all items were compatable and they were not and on top of that they tryed to up sell me and had no intension to make it right and they kept the dvd player and did no reemburse me for it so all i can say is good luck to all of you
