The owner's manual for the LG 8x External USB Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive - Black, Model # SP80NB80 list it as being compatible with Mac OS X v.10.7.5 or Higher Operating systems. It only comes with a software disc for Windows. The drive gets its power from the PC USB power. All systems may not meet USB power requirements and full performance may not be achieved. In this case, you will need to connect with a USB Y type cable (not supplied.)...^IFV

I'm a teacher and several years ago the school issued me an early 2015 platform. The dvd writer works fine on it--no software required. I recently purchased a 2020 model Mac for home use and the salesman recommended an ULTRA SLIM PORTABLE DVD WRITER to use with it, but it doesn't work. The tech at the school seems to think that it doesn't get enough power from the later Mac models. I ended up ordering an Apple USB SuperDrive from Amazon and it works just fine.
