“Can this CD/DVD be used interchangeably between my wife's Mac and my HP lap top? If I want to copy a CD music album to my HP can I then copy the same album to the Mac? Also what is the difference between a "double layer" vs single layer?”

DVD+R DL discs employ two recordable dye layers, each capable of storing nearly the 4.7 GB capacity of a single-layer disc, almost doubling the total disc capacity to 8.5 GB. Discs can be read in many DVD devices (older units are less compatible) and can only be created using DVD+R DL and Super Multi drives. I don't believe that this drive will work with a Mac unless you can find device drivers on manufacturers website. Think of a "double layer" dvd as a double cheeseburger and the single layer dvd as a regular cheeseburger
