The LG - 8x External USB Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive - Black, Model # SP80NB80 itself will not convert VHS to DVD. It has to be connected to your PC/Laptop and there is a variety of VHS to digital File and DVD converter's available that you can connect to your computer and to your source for the VHS and then burn them to a DVD using the SP80NB80. You will need to install the necessary drivers and Cyberlink Power Director Capture program to your PC/Laptop...^IFV

Of course you could do transfer to that but you also need the capture card and software in addition to the DVD

Unless you have additional hardware and software, you can't it is just a basic DVD burner

You can use this drive to write to DVD-R discs but you will need other equipment to accomplish your transferring task from VHS.
