can i play a movie on a tv with this null

I don't think so unless you are running it through a laptop. It is only the dvd drive which doesn't have any drivers or decoders for sending a signal to the tv.

The TV connectivity mode on the LG - 8x External USB Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive - Black, Model # SP80NB80 allows you to play movies through the USB port on a connected TV. Switching the drive to TV mode allows you TV to recognize the drive as a flash drive...^IFV
