• No, it is the way they appear. What look like "tiny speakers" are the back end of the earbuds. It is a great improvement over how the old style earbuds stuck to the control neck piece. By the way, I can't imagine that external speakers of that size would sound very good.

• There appears to be two microphones on the HBS-78, one on the inside and one up top I believe that is why it is so sensitive to sound.
