There are different versions of Bluetooth (i.e Bluetooth version 1.2, version 2.0, version 3.0 version 4.0 etc.,) but each succeeding version is backward compatible so that all the versions will work with one another. The Bluetooth technology is the same in all versions, they all have the same range of 33 feet or 10 meters, where the versions differ is in their specifications.
