Ive used mine out in the rain no problem. I try to limit the time and wipe it off after. I have had one fall in the bilge of a boat for about a minute, got it out, wiped it off and didnt have a problem.

It is waterproof for up to 30 minutes. It will work in the rain, just shake it off when you are done. No need to worry about the water unless you drop it in a deep pool or leave it in water for longer then 30 minutes.
