The case is a flat color which doesn't really shine bright. But the blue is distinct and the back to the case is clear. I personally am happy with this case because if I scratch the case on the blue it won't be so obvious because the color is flat. I would assume if it was shiny you could see the scratches easier as the shine dulls out.
