“ambient noise in the background on other end I'm on Google hangouts and the other person says they can hear me doing everything on the other end and hear ambient noise. How do I correct this?”

Adjust the sensitivity via the setup program in the OS. You can likely get a better reception but not perfect. The other thing I have done is to get a small amount of black foam rubber or one of those microphone balls to put on the mic when I can find them small enough [and the cats haven't stolen], then cut a hole in the foam towards my mouth. That cuts down on the reception for all but my voice.
