It comes with a charge and will quickly charge fully while you are using it. No need to charge before use.

It came charged up and I have never had to think about the charge. There is a window in my office, about 10 feet away from my desk, but it does not get direct sunlight. I have a desk lamp in the evening. There is an on/off switch but I have yet to turn it off.

I used it right from the box and I have never not been able to use it it’s solar so my office has an overhead light and a window for Sun to help charge it

I have four of these excellent keyboards. They all arrived charged enough to use immediately. If there is any room light, or window light, they will stay nearly fully changed all the time. Turn it off if it is stored in dark for days, and it will retain change. I've never had one discharge fully.
They have a nice touch and are light weight. My favorite!
