The mouse has an auto-off so no need to switch it off and the USB receiver can be left in the computer. The battery typically lasts a year or so, better than any other wireless mouse.

If you take it out, it might remind you to turn the mouse off. Otherwise it might shorten the battery lifespan if you leave it on. I personally take USB connector out, if I am taking my laptop out of the house. I don't want the connector getting caught on something or getting hit while transporting my laptop.
