This turns out to be a not-uncommon issue. It is possible to replace the micro switch inside the trackball, but you should only try this if you are experienced with un-soldering and soldering on a printed circuit board. It is pretty straightforward if you're comfortable with soldering. See this YouTube video for details: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlzEmRnu4DQ At least that will give you a clear idea about what you'd be getting into. As you will see, the micro switches themselves are sealed so you can't clean the contacts... you replace the whole switch. Hope that helps!
