• No, it is not required. If you leave keyboard on and shut down computer, still it is fine.

• I normally just turn off both things to be safe not sure if it would drain the battery.

• While it won't drain the battery significantly if you leave it on, the battery life depends on how much you use the keyboard. If you want to conserve battery power, you can turn it off using the power switch on the keyboard when you're not using it.
