the answer is because there is 2 versions of the keyboard. the stand alone one comes with the special unifying receiver. the bundled one uses an older logitech dongle and is not compatible with the unifying receiver. its cheaper because you have to buy a whole new one if you lose the dongle.

Since it's the holidays, it's very possible that the combo is less expensive right now. So snag it so you can save some money! Hope that helps! -N from Logitech
