Will it work from an adjacent room? null

Yes, I have been able to make mine work from a server rack while I was in a another room.

This presenter has a USB receiver. So long the presenter has an unobstructed signal to the receiver, it will work. Being in another room will probably inhibit the infrared signal.

It should have a 30m distance which is far more than needed for most presenters.

Up to a hundred feet or so. The pointer is line of sight however.
